Continuing education programs not offering online registration are not being as effective as they could be. In 2014 having simple, shopping cart online registration is a given, thus a winning continuing education software system must provide much more. As higher education institutions push continuing education programs to be financially self-sufficient and positive net generators, software systems must be designed to increase staff productivity and efficiency. Although continuing education software systems are not designed to replace people, a good continuing education software system should allow continuing education program leadership to reassign more staff to revenue generating tasks. Ideally, the return-on-investment over 3 years of a continuing education program software system should be 10:1, thus cost times 10 should equal increased revenue or reduced costs due to the software system.
