The Nomenclature of "Non": The Impact of Negative Theory on Continuing Education

In traditional academic circles, non-credit courses have often been held in lower regard than courses that offer college credit. Even the word, non–credit reinforces the idea that courses that do not lead to a degree are not as valuable because non-credit defines the course by what it is not, as opposed to what it is.
